Who’s in your way?

Recently, I came across a song by Calvin Harris that exemplifies the way many of us think in our day-to-day life. Many of us feel as though we’re being held back, we can’t do what we want to do in our life, and we’re waiting for that time when all of the doors open, the walls collapse and fall to the ground, and were able to manifest our dream life, the life we’ve always dreamed of living in the recesses of our mind. Most of us have responsibilities whether it’s our marriage, children, working and going back to school at the same time, working multiple jobs, and the list of responsibilities magnifies. Our responsibilities and the lack of more hours in a day seems to put our dreams on hold. We daydream about what could be, we ponder the options, and sometimes get extremely close to following through with some piece of the puzzle. I find that reluctance and fear get in our way of truly following through. Some of us question our truth, can I do this, am I acting crazy, is this just a dream, and am I trying to escape my life? The closer we get to our dream the more we question its relevance and longevity. We get stuck with paying the mortgage, paying bills, worrying about aging relatives, and wondering when our chance to make waves will come. What if I said, because of my own personal experience, that it seems in order to make the leap we have to just take the jump. There’s no perfect time to go against the odds, there’s no perfect time to jump headfirst in a dream life that could make you extremely happy and feel extremely freeing. I’m not talking about removing responsibilities, I am talking about removing fake obstacles we create in our own mind. I realize, I too suffer from some of these mind-created obstacles that get in the way of me living my true life.

Throughout life, we put parameters on what we can and can’t do. Many of us tell ourselves, once we get XYZ we then can do XYZ. Funny or actually kind of sad and limiting, the XYZ keeps changing, we need more or different “stuff” and we fall into the realm of judging our lives against other people’s lives. We then change our direction and course, this usually sidetracks our lives for a good bit of time, and we come back to the same place years from now wondering where did the time go. There’s a fine line between wasting time and eventual regret of one’s squandering of time and life. Regret is not taken back easily and tends to sting sometimes forever. How do we get moving on our desires, our dreams, and a new course of action? How do we stick to our responsibilities and still find time to work towards our dreams?

Why are you waiting to live your life? Why do we blame others for our life and circumstances? Have you honestly and quietly asked yourself what is in your way? When you do ask quietly allowing yourself to sit with it, do you listen? Do you take note and as you take notes does it become clear? As I listen to this song, and as I watch the official video, I realize that the woman in the video is a hologram of sorts some may say a figment of his imagination others may say it honestly depicts that everything is somewhat an illusion and all in our mind.

Based on that interpretation, will you begin to see your life as it truly is, what is the illusion that’s in the way of living your true life? Have you begun to think about this? When is it ever going to be the right time to make a change in your life, to do something new, to go after a dream, and begin to search and find throughout this life something you’ve been looking for, something you want, something you need, and something you desire.

The time is now are you ready?

I ask you to look into the illusion and see how much of that is running your day-to-day life. Are you ready to let go of the illusion that you can’t live the life you want, to wait it out, to live in regret, and one day wonder why you never did it… Do yourself a favor and watch the video, see it as more than a music video, and realize this is a piece of your true reality that is actually an illusion holding you back from living your true life.

Are you ready to let go of your illusion and walk your unique, one-of-a-kind journey?

Much like Calvin Harris will you break out of the confining walls of your life? Calvin left his job at Safeway to make music, look how that turned out…
